A series of photo and video portraits
Client: Anchorage Museum
Since 2010, the Anchorage Museum has hired me to create portraits of notable Alaskan artists. Following a particular fascination for Alaskan people and their stories, this ongoing series profiles many of the important artists and characters of the state. Rich in storytelling and scenery, these videos chronicle individuals and collectively illustrate a place — Alaska itself is a character in the series. Because ancestral homelands link the artist’s personal story to their people and to place, these films take viewers to regions including Kodiak, Sitka, Kikiktagruk (Kotzebue), Nome, Unalakleet, Utqiagvik and Fairbanks.
“Each video is a collaboration between the subject and myself where I help tell the story of the artist through their own words, images of their work and their surroundings….”
