ADULTS ONLY

A collaborative site-specific installation

Support from: Cook Inlet Housing Authority, The Writer's Block Bookstore and Cafe

When a sex shop in Anchorage’s Spenard neighborhood became abandoned, several locals artists turned it into a temporary art installation. The context and history of the building inspired creative responses that ranged from pole dancing performance to videos mounted in peep show booths. I created a series of portraits to explore the male gaze — both the photographer and the sex shop patron. Adults Only was open to the public for three consecutive Fridays which took on the feel of a block party.

I made documentary photos of the events did video interviews with event-goers about the memories of the location, the neighborhood of Spenard and their hopes for the future.
